Man who killed Cunupia woman discharged from hospital

THE 53-year-old man who swallowed poisoned after chopping a grandmother of one to death at her Cunupia home several days ago, has been discharged from hospital.

The father of two who was being treated while under police guard was discharged from the hospital last Friday. A senior police source told Newsday a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) so instructions can be given on if the suspect is to be charged.

On April 26, Bassie Sooknanan, 53, was at her Persad Avenue, Cunupia home when she was chopped to death.

According to police, neighbours reported hearing Sooknanan and the man arguing and later on, they heard her screams.

When police arrived, they found Sooknanan's body on the bedroom floor. A cutlass stained with blood was also found. The man was seen lying near the woman's body, frothing from his mouth. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
