Man selling protected parrots on Facebook arrested

A 23-YEAR-OLD Diego Martin man who offered for sale, 16 protected parrots for a total of $6400 via his Facebook page was today arrested by a team of game wardens and police.

Reports said the man posted photographs of ten yellow-headed parrots and six white-eyed conures advertising their sale on his Facebook page and other business pages.

The birds are protected under the Conservation of Wildlife Act – and if an individual is in possession of any during the close season, he or she must have a permit.

The advertisement was reported and game wardens II Andy Singh and Steve Seepersad, and Visham Madhu, and Jeremy Dindial who together with Southern Division Task Force police had the man under surveillance for some time.

The man was arrested in Gasparillo this morning and charged. He is expected to face a San Fernando Magistrate today.
