Griffith: Claims of race pure mischief

POLICE Commissioner Gary Griffith is denying that the “searches” by the police in Gulf View, La Romaine were based on race, politics or religion, but were done for a “specific purpose.” The reason, he said, would be revealed when it is appropriate to do so, but he wanted to assure the public that the operation had no link to the recent arrest of anyone.

In a statement on Sunday, Griffith said the searches happened while he was out of the country, but he has since been briefed by acting Commissioner of Police, Harold Phillip.

“There may be some who come to conclusions of virtually any national topic based on race, politics or religion. The TTPS does not fall in that grouping. We may not be perfect, but we make decisions that at times may inconvenience others.”

He said he notes with interest the adverse comments by a few people whose conclusions show their inability to understand the role and function of the police. Griffith said, as an organisation the police does its work without favour or affection, malice or ill will, and any notion contrary to this could be considered as pure mischief.

He said the police is non-discriminatory and for someone to make a statement that the police is targeting and intimidating a specific ethnic group is irresponsible and lacking facts.
