The Ministry of National Security continues to secure our borders as reports of an attempted coup d'etat surface from Venezuela.

In a release moments ago, Minister of National Security Stuart Young acknowledged reports that "certain elements of the Venezuelan military have indicated support for Mr Juan Guaido and that support has resulted in disturbances in Venezuela."

He said TT maintains its principled position of non-interference and non-intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela and hopes that the Venezuelan people will resolve their affairs peacefully.

"I advise that the relevant divisions of the Ministry of National Security have been working together and have been focused on securing our borders and we will continue to do so," Young said.

Earlier today, Venezuela’s self-declared interim President Juan Guaido urged military action against the incumbent Maduro regime.

In a tweet early this morning, Guaido said he was meeting with the main units of Venezuela’s armed forces for the beginning of what he called “Operation Freedom.”

“The people of Venezuela have initiated the end of the usurpation,” Guaido said, as he called for protests in the street and for the military to intervene.
