THE EDITOR: The police display the same mentality and attitudes of our politicians when viewing the slaughter of citizens. They are quick off the mark to point out that the murder rate this year so far is lower than that of last year.

Although this may be so, they have failed to mention or consider that the rate should be much lower, bearing in mind the Commissioner of Police’s “one shot, one kill” policy which has been in operation.

The police, as I have said before, like the politicians, give a clear impression that the high murder rate in this country with such a small population is acceptably and needs no special efforts to try and stem its flow.

These would include, for instance, the restoration of the death penalty, calling a state of emergency, or the police getting out of their vehicles and doing scheduled foot patrols in hotshot of criminal activities.

It is not only the murder rate that should be worrying. It is the failure of both the police and the Government to stem the galloping general lawlessness that is of concern.
