TML condemns barbaric act in Sri Lanka

THE EDITOR: The Trinidad Muslim League (TML Inc) expresses its profound sadness over the events that took place in Sri Lanka during the Easter celebrations, resulting in immense suffering and death of sons, daughters, mothers and fathers.

We understand and share the pain and suffering that the Christian community and people of Sri Lanka have endured over the last few days due to the horrific massacre of innocent lives. The sanctity of human life is accorded a special place in Islam. The first and the foremost basic right of a human being is the right to live. The glorious Quran says, “...and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all of humanity (Quran 5:32). ”

Also, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Show mercy towards all on this Earth, the one who is above the Heavens will bestow mercy on you” (Sahih Bukhari).

The Muslim community stands firm in condemning this most barbaric act against our fellow Christian brothers and sisters. This act was committed by people who are totally misguided and exemplified the worst of humanity. The perpetrators need to be brought to justice and account for their evil deeds.

TML will continue to advocate for peace, good relationships and coexistence of all people regardless of religious beliefs and practices. The Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Help one another to do what is right and good; do not help one another towards sin and hostility. Be mindful of Allah, for His punishment is severe” (Qur’an, 5:2).

“O you who believe, enter wholeheartedly into peace, and do not follow in Satan’s footsteps, for he is your sworn enemy” (Qur’an, 2:208).

“Repel evil with good” (Qur’an, 23:96).

We again reiterate our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who have suffered so much over the last few days. Our prayers and best wishes are with the families and the entire nation of Sri Lanka.
