Providence Girls’ Catholic School will host its second annual concert, Divine Encounter — Evolve at The Lord Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA on April 27.

The concert will showcase the multi-faceted talents of its students and will feature its steel orchestra and choir, both of which placed first at SanFest 2018, and its drama group, which placed first in the Rebirth House Facing Life Series for three years.

There will be special guest performances by Wendell Constantine, opera soprano Natalia Dopwell and violinist Nariba Herbert.

The school will also showcase the artistic abilities of present and past students and some of the students’ art pieces will be auctioned.

The school said the theme Evolve was chosen to highlight the importance of process.

“Although we live in a world where everything is instant, meaningful growth takes time. As human beings, we are always in process and that is sacred. We hope to capture that sense of evolution in all our presentations especially in the second half of the performance which is a musical."

A press release said the musical is the story of a hard-working single mother of five who struggles to send her last daughter to school, as she feels she is the only one with potential to realise her dreams. The daughter, Abby, however, wants to pursue a career in the arts, which her mother Netta and eldest sister Wilma vehemently oppose.

Things come to a head when Abby, with the help of her best friend Janine, comes up with a plan to follow her dreams despite her family’s disapproval

Tickets are on sale at the school and the NAPA box office.
