Teen needs blood after losing leg

Trevon Bonas, 18, who was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning and lost his left leg is in urgent need of blood for emergency surgery.

Bonas, a fifth form student of Scarborough Secondary, was driving along the Claude Noel highway in his silver Madza 323 but lost control of the car near the Signal Hill traffic lights and crashed head-on into a metal railing.

He was with 16-year-old Taresal Walker of Castara. Both teens received serious injuries to their legs. Bonas’ left leg was severed. Walker is in a stable condition awaiting transfer to Trinidad for surgery to save her leg.

On Monday, Scarborough Secondary alumni made a plea to the public to visit the blood bank at the Scarborough Hospital and donate to Bonas. Newsday was told Bonas needs O-positive blood.

Secretary for the Division of Health Dr Agatha Carrington said counselling will be provided to the teens during their recovery.
