BOYS and girls on the island had their chance to show off their fancy Easter outfits at the 4th annual Mt Pleasant Sports and Family day on Easter Monday at the Mt Pleasant Recreational grounds. The children, from as young as one year, boldly modelled on the stage clad in bright colours and embellishments with fancy Easter hats to complement their look.

The competition started with the smallest kids between the ages 1-4 which didn’t go too smooth as many of them had to be escorted by their parents since they were too shy to parade before the judges and small audience. Not all the participants in the category were shy, though, as Jenayah Felix surprised the audience with her confidence, which was enough to wow the judges and send her home with the trophy.

In the 6-9 category, Davana Cowan brought life to the stage with her radiant yellow dress with bright flowers and Easter eggs. Destiny Guy, 7, toned down things a bit with her pure white dress with a pink and blue flower waistband, embellished with a hat covered with rabbits, butterflies and eggs. A crowd’s favourite in this category was Kaya Beckles with her poise and highly unique dress which featured pink, purple and white balloons.

In the 10-12 age group, Dathelle McIntosh, portraying Easter in Tobago, was a familiar face to the competition and once again captured first place in her category.

In the pair category, Hose Barton and Shantell Diaz had the audience cheering when they entered the stage dressed as “Easter Zessers.” Barton was in full bling mode, holding a stylish walking stick and covered in gold jewellery.

However, it was sister and brother, Jannay and Jabariah Melville, wearing matching bonnets made of plates, spoons, bristol board and poui tree branches with birds in a nest, which got the judges' nod for the top prize.
