Brother in court for killing brother

A 33-YEAR-OLD man appeared yesterday before a Couva magistrate charged with the murder of his elder brother. Kevin Elie was taken before magistrate Christine Charles, where the charge was read to him. The charge is that on April 13 at Savonetta, Couva, he murdered Terry Elie, 41.

The charge was laid indictably by PC Shane Rambhajan of the Homicide Region Three and Elie was not called upon to plead. It is alleged that Terry was beaten at his home and later died in hospital.

Attorney Indira Binda, who represented Elie, said her client had type two diabetes and is on prescription medication. She asked the magistrate if her client could be assisted to get his prescribed medication in prison.

Prosecutor Sgt Lincoln Bonnett confirmed he was aware of Elie’s medical condition and that while he was at the station, police allowed him to take his medication. The magistrate made a note to the prison authorities to ensure Elie would be given his drugs. He was remanded to the Remand Yard and the case adjourned to May 21.
