TT’s leading lady of jazz Vaughnette Bigford will premiere her own show titled VSpot Semi-Inclusive Jazz Experience at Clifton Hill Manor in Point Fortin, on May 1 starting at 7 pm.

Joining the singer on stage will be Caribbean Airlines Skiffle Steel Orchestra, violinist Anselm Walters, soul singer John John Francis and TT’s newest musical collective, Ijó. The show will also feature cutting-edge Caribbean fashion by Point Fortin-based Zadd and Eastman Designs.

Widely respected for her velvet-like contralto voice and her equally charming and down-to-earth personality, Bigford has appeared on just about every major local jazz festival line-up, and is currently set to share her music with audiences abroad. Already with one CD to her credit titled Born to Shine, music aficionados continue to endorse her efforts on several stirring renditions of songs originally done by popular local singers from the 70s – her way of paying homage to them.

She is the brain behind VSpot Jazz and as a resident of La Brea – which forms part of the Point Fortin borough – Bigford is quite excited about her show kicking off the week-long slate of events leading up to the much anticipated Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations.

“We plan to shape and fashion VSpot Jazz into an annual signature event on the local calendar,” Bigford said.

“It’s no secret that most of the major jazz shows are held in north Trinidad, so that gives us the creative space to develop a distinctive event that’s hosted within the southern community and draws from our home-grown talent. We’ll also feature guest musicians and performers from other parts of the country. The possibilities are endless”, she ended. The picturesque poolside setting is sure to serve as the perfect backdrop to the scintillating musical playlist that she and her band are planning to deliver.

Without revealing too much about what patrons will be treated to, the popular singer let on that she would be delving into her Caribbean pop songbook, exploring new listening possibilities via interpretations of soca and calypso selections, flirting with her early moorings in straight ahead jazz, and putting a modern spin on evergreen R&B hits. With some of TT’s finest musicians/arrangers providing back up.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Patrons in the north can enquire about the available shuttle service.
