Thief strikes on Holy Thursday

A SIPARIA man, on bail charged with a series of house break-ins and robberies, struck again on Holy Thursday while some of his unsuspecting victims went to the popular La Divina Pastora celebrations seeking blessings.

While Siparia was buzzing with activity, as people paid homage to the patron saint of the community — the Divine Shepherdess, referred to as Siparee Mai by Hindu devotees and also revered by Catholics – the thief struck. Police said officers from the Siparia CID arrested the suspect on Saturday after receiving several reports of house break-ins and robberies which happened on Thursday.

Police also found five live rounds of 9mm ammunition at his home when they searched it.

The man is also the suspect in a shooting about a week ago in Siparia, which left a man wounded.

Police also said the suspect shot at someone on Thursday, but missed.

In that incident, police recovered ten 9mm spent shells.
