Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles remains puzzled over the response of the assembly’s minority leader to comments made by Maha Sabha secretary general Sat Maharaj.

Questioned about his thoughts on Duke's statements at Wednesday’s post-Executive Council media briefing, Charles said: “It did not reflect the level of statesmanship that was required under the circumstances and indeed at one time I was wondering if I was listening to Sat Maharaj himself or a clone of Sat Maharaj.”

Duke dismissed Maharaj’s statements as filled with hate and seeking to build further walls between the people of TT. He also said if an apology was not made in a timely manner, he would begin a hate campaign against Maharaj and everyone who subscribed to his rhetoric.

Duke, who is also president of the Public Services Association (PSA), spoke at a press conference at the PSA's headquarters on Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
