Better country after Sat quits

THE EDITOR: Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, the proud son of Tobagonian parents, no longer has to wait to hear from Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar concerning the disturbing speech from the head of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, Satnarayan Maharaj. She has condemned his divisive, unpatriotic and derogatory statement aimed at Tobagonians, particularly the men.

In what appears to be justification for her expression of disapproval of Maharaj’s remarks, Persad-Bissessar reminded the nation that the deputy political leader of the UNC (more recently advertised as being a movement), Jearlean John, is a Tobagonian. What was the purpose of this reminder? Was it meant to lure the voting population into a false sense of all-inclusive security, UNC style?

In directing his comments particularly at men, doesn’t Maharaj know that the occupant of the second highest office in the country – the Office of Prime Minister – is from Tobago? Has he never heard of Victor Bruce, Michael Hercules, ANR Robinson, Reginald Dumas, Dwight Yorke, Duvone Stewart, Winston Duke etc?

As soon as Maharaj demits his leadership of the Maha Sabha, the country may get closer to constructing a society that is made up of “one” we.
