PRESIDENT Paula-Mae Weekes is on vacation.

A brief statement issued by the Office of the President said Weekes left the country on vacation yesterday and will return to office on April 29.

In her absence, Senate President Christine Kangaloo will act as President. Under the Constitution, the Senate President acts as President whenever the President is either out of the country or unable to act because of other circumstances such as illness.

Should the Senate President be unable to fulfil these duties, the responsibility falls to the Senate Vice-President.

At yesterday's sitting of the Senate, Augustus Thomas was sworn in as a temporary government senator to take Kangaloo's place while she is acting President.
