Meningitis

THE EDITOR: Recent cases of meningitis in TT have sparked a cause for concern. Firstly, let us stop the blame game. We are all responsible.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include but are not limited to: high fever, stiff neck, headache, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite or thirst and skin rash.

At the onset of any of the above seek professional medical attention. No bush doctors.

To help prevent the spread of meningitis: wash hands before eating and after using the toilet; practice good hygiene; do not share food, drinks, eating utensils and lip balms; stay healthy; exercise; get enough rest; eat healthy; and cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Viral meningitis is a real pain in the neck.
