Gobar on air from young commentators

THE EDITOR: I congratulate the national senior football team on a grand performance against Wales last week. Judging from what I read, the heroics of goalkeeper Marvin Phillips saved (no pun intended) the day.

However, I want to deal with the negative commentators and naysayer who see nothing good coming from the team. I heard two wet-behind-the-ears commentators on radio who sounded so puerile, they should be in kindergarten.

At the age of 68 I have followed, and played at one time, football, seen the glory days of the sixties and seventies, watched the Strike Squad go from zero to hero, the 2006 team share licks, and the fall of football.

Now that coach Dennis Lawrence and the boys are trying to put the ship on an even keel, what do we get from two jokey commentators? Criticism and more criticism. These so-called armchair experts are so negative they can’t see anything good.

Programme directors need to look at the tripe, or gobar, young commentators spew. They are not doing their jobs fairly.
