Counselling, leave the new cop out

THE EDITOR: I wrote recently about the police's inability to even question the driver of an army vehicle involved in the horrific death of an 82-year-old woman with the dumb excuse that "he was sent on extended leave."

Now we hear from a senior officer that "the Special Reserve Police constable who was involved in a road accident in which 46-year-old Shervon Medina died is on leave and receiving counselling." (Surely, it's the Medina family that needs counselling.)

Even though there is clear video evidence, hear the officer, "The video shows one thing, but we aren't sure what he might have been seeing that night."

That's like freeing a murderer because he said he thought he was killing a dog, not a human. That's a defence now? I mean, what else could a two-legged creature walking upright be, except a human? Lord, lend a hand.

It seems that the army/police can now kill with impunity and be treated with kid's gloves or not at all by "going on leave." I'm certain the Commissioner of Police will not condone this behaviour. Over to you, sir.
