Cop granted $500,000 bail

A police inspector and a police corporal, both from the Eastern Division appeared before a Sangre Grande magistrate on Thursday, charged with the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Inspector Christopher Fuentes and Corporal Dindial Joseph stood before magistrate Brahmanand Dubay yesterday. The magistrate set Fuentes’ bail at $500,000 while he set Dindial’s at $80,000.

Fuentes was charged with abduction, false imprisonment and three sexual offences against the teenager. Joseph was charged with sexual touching.

The two cops’ matters were postponed to September 11.

The teenager, who the officers allegedly assaulted, was also charged with stealing one of the police officers’ Sig Sauer pistol, loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, a gold watch and a gold chain.
