FOURTH and fifth-seeded players Jerome Ward and Richard Chung yesterday sealed the final two places up for grabs in the quarter-finals of the men’s singles with easy wins over their respective opponents as action continued in the Shell Tranquillity Tennis open yesterday.

At the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua, Ward, seeded fourth, cruised past Alijah Leslie 6-3, 6-2, booking a spot in the last-eight stage against Richard McLetchie, who advanced a day prior, following a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Ebolum Nwokolo.

Ward would also advance to the quarter-final in the men’s doubles, when he and Ethan Wong denied the pair of Tyler Hart and Levi Hinkson, 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Chung, competing in the final Round Two men’s singles match, booked his spot in the next stage with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over teenager Scott Hackshaw. Chung will face third-seeded Kesha Moonasar in the singles quarter-final. He will play third-seeded Mc Collin Fontenelle, who eased past Ricky Villaroel 6-1, 6-2.

The senior veterans singles competition also featured two semifinals, with top seed Athelstan Phillips recording a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rafeek Mohammed to join Mark Lee Lum in the final.
Lee Lum got past Frank Ramudit, who retired, trailing 6-1, 5-0.
