Tobago rape accused on $800,000 bail

Bail has been set at $800,000 for 34-year-old Artherly "Ratty" Fraser.

Fraser, a PH taxi driver from Arouca, Trinidad, who has been staying at a house in Young Street, Canaan, appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates' Third Court before Magistrate Duane Murray on Friday. He was charged with the kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault of two British tourists.

Fraser was charged after the two women made a report at the Shirvan Road Police Station on March 11.

The charges arose from an incident which allegedly occurred around 1.30am on the same date. The victims, who had gone to the weekly Sunday School event in Buccoo, had hired a private driver to return to the guesthouse where they were staying in Black Rock. En route to their destination, the driver stopped at Grafton Beach and raped, sexually assaulted the women and robbed them of their cellphones, before driving off.

Charges were laid by WPC Phillip-Radix and the matter has been adjourned to April 5.
