Bandit arrested minutes after robbery

Members of the Port of Spain City Police arrested a 19-year-old Nelson Street man, minutes after he robbed a market vendor this afternoon.

Police said at around 5.30 pm, the victim was plying his goods at the Central Market when he was approached from behind by a man who ordered him to hand over his money.

When he refused, the bandit took $3000 from the vendor's pocket and ran away.

The man made a report to the market's police post, giving a description of the bandit.

Cpls John, McShine and Constable Fabres drove around east Port of Spain and found the man in John John.

He was arrested and found with $500.

The man was charged and is expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate tomorrow.

Police said Port of Spain vendors are the targets of increased attacks from bandits from Beetham and east Port of Spain.
