Trini was fantastic

THE EDITOR: I am hurt and dissatisfied with the non-selection of the Mighty Trini for the National Calypso Monarch finals at Saturday’s Calypso Fiesta at Skinner Park. His performance of 101 Per Cent was indeed fantastic. The music was well played and his diction was crystal clear.

Since this unfortunate decision, we have been hearing via the radio shows and social media about the absolute displeasure of locals and “foreign” nationals at this unfair and unjust treatment meted out to Trini.

Trini has a passion for nation-building songs and he definitely puts his all into it. This is a true son of the soil whose patriotism cannot be questioned. It is rather unfortunate that the judges did not look around and see the crowd’s response when Trini was on stage.

If my memory serves me right, this is a repeat of the 1994 Dimanche Gras show when Trini, singing Who is Who and Dat eh Calypso, did not make it to the top three.

My message to Trini is not to allow this to pull him down. Hold your chin up and continue doing what you do, Trini. To the judges I say, shame, shame, shame.

It leaves me to ask: what is the criteria for being a judge?
