SRP among 4 detained in kidnapping of Venezuelan woman

A SPECIAL Reserve Police officer is among four people in custody for kidnapping a 24-year-old Venezuelan woman last night.

St Margarets police arrested the officer and a 31-year-old man in a car on the Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Macaulay overpass at about 10.30 pm. Police rescued the frightened woman who was seated in the car.

PCs Nagessar, Horsford, Beharry and Farrell intercepted the car, having received a report of the kidnapping from West End police. They took the officer, who has about six years’ service, and the accomplice to the St Margarets police station. The officer works in the Port of Spain Division and lives in Princes Town while the other man lives at Tarouba.

While at the station, two men who live at Santa Cruz visited to ask about the arrests. Police also detained them for further enquiries and handed the men over to Western Division police.

ASP Ramdeen, Insp Nanan and PC Rajkumar together with police from the Emergency Response Unit and the Southern Division assisted in the exercise. Senior police commended the police for their diligence saying it was their "keen powers of observation" which led to the arrest.

Police from the Counter-Trafficking and Anti-Kidnapping Units are investigating.
