$.4m bail for man on sex charges

A 27-YEAR-OLD sound engineer appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates' court this morning on charges of raping two girls in separate incidents.

Kharril Edwards was arrested last Friday and appeared before magistrate Alicia Chankar. The first charge read to him was that on October 4, 2017, at Cypress Boulevard in Union Hall, he raped a girl under the age of 17. The second charge alleged that on the same day he falsely imprisoned the girl.

Chankar read another charge that between October 31, 2018 and November 1, he raped a 14-year-old girl. A fourth charge was read that on the same day, he again raped the same girl. The magistrate granted Edwards bail in the sum of $400,000 to cover all charges.

However, as a condition to granting the bail, Chankar ordered Edwards not to make any contact with the victims, whether directly in person or indirectly via social media, letters or otherwise. He must report to the San Fernando police station on Tuesdays and Saturdays weekly and the case was adjourned to March 11.
