Rock steady or calypso?

THE EDITOR: I am informed that some music producers in TT who use Logic 9 and Logic 10 software are querulous about the beat loop which Logic calls rock steady and is labelled as Jamaican. The rhythm is in fact calypso, played on drum kits since the 1940s in Trinidad.

This prompts the question about the origin of such misnomers and whether they are purely accidental. Whatever the case, Apple should be approached by the relevant state body to make the necessary correction.

It is bad enough that when our patrimony is not being neglected, it is consistently misrepresented and misappropriated both at home and abroad.

It is even worse when we co-operate with such treachery in failing to seek truth and justice out of respect for our forebears who made these contributions to civilisation and to protect the interest of younger generations.
