Baby monkey found in van, Erin man arrested
An Erin man has been arrested after a baby capuchin monkey was found hidden in the back seat of his van last Thursday.
Reports said at about 12.10 pm, police on mobile patrol stopped and searched the white Kia pick-up van and found a white-faced monkey. The monkey was taken away and placed in the care of game wardens.
The 27-year-old man was charged with possession of a protected animal without a permit. He was charged by PC Leefiddler under the Conservation of Wild Life Act.
The monkey is a protected animal.
The man was expected to go before a Siparia magistrate last Friday.
