Woman charged with trafficking kilo of weed

A PETIT Valley woman was granted $25,000 bail with a surety on Wednesday after police found more than a kilogramme of marijuana in a car which had crashed in St James.

Gabriella Jardine, of Cassia Drive, Petit Valley, appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ 4A Court charged with possession of 1.104 kilogrammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. She was charged by PC McClean of the Western Division Task Force (WDTF).

Jardine pleaded not guilty when she appeared before magistrate Aden Stroude. She was represented by attorney Ian Brooks and will return to court on February 26.

According to police reports, at about 11.15 a.m. on Tuesday, officers of the WDTF, including PC McClean, PC Sahadath, WPC Mathews, Sgt Hudlin, PC Davis, and officers from the Traffic Branch, responded to a report of an accident at Panka Street and Clarence Street, St James.

They saw a crashed Nissan Note and when they went to assist, they found two brown packages in the car, which allegedly contained marijuana.
