EYM blast into UWI T20 final

El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) hammered their way into the final of the 2019 UWI-UNICOM T20 Cricket tournament with a massive 73-run win over Prisons, on Saturday night, at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, St Augustine.

EYM were due to face Queen’s Park Cricket Club last night in the title-match at the same venue, with both teams looking to claim the trophy for the first time.

EYM were sent in to bat and racked up a mammoth 256 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Alden Daniel set the tempo with a riveting 73 from 31 (three fours, eight sixes), only to be upstaged later in the innings by Keon Isaac and Richard Ali.

Isaac top scored with 83 from 37 (two fours, eight sixes) while Ali cracked 79 from 40 with six fours and five sixes.

Their partnership began at 91 for three in the eighth after Daniel departed to Daryl Williams.

The duo took the score to 244 in the final over where both perished skying Javed Boodram (two for 42) to Jerva Cummings. All Prisons bowlers went for over 10 runs an over, but EYM accumulated most of their runs off Jarlanie Seales who went for a whopping 81 in his four.

Prisons started wobbly, getting to 24 for three after four, with Bryan Boodram (two for 12) removing openers Andre Mohammed for duck and Trevon James for three. Eventually, they began to pick up momentum in the second half of the innings.

Cummings led the way with an unbeaten 74 off 43 which included four fours and five sixes.

He had an 80-run sixth wicket partnership with Ravi Khan who made 39 (one four, two sixes), but it came too little, too late.

Prisons ended their campaign by making a respectable 183 for six.
