Four arrested in Gasparillo after mini-mart robbery

QUICK response by police led to the arrest of four men moments after they robbed a mini-mart in Gasparillo of a quantity of cash and cigarettes. Police said the men, who are from Laventille, San Juan and Morvant, will be placed on identification parade today in connection with other robberies throughout south Trinidad.

According to a police report at about 4.30 pm on Thursday the men, armed with guns, entered Beharry’s mini mart along Charles Street in Gasparillo. They announced a hold-up and ordered everyone on the bar to lie on the ground.

Police said they thrust a large number of cigarettes into a bag. They also stole a flat-screen television and a Dell laptop from the mini-mart.

The men also robbed patrons of their cell phones and cash before running out of the mini mart. Eyewitnesses said they sped off in a gold Tiida. Police were contacted and a team including PC Davin Nagesssar, WPC Jenice Mc Intosh of the St Margaret’s Mobile and PCs Deonanan and Ramnarine immediately responded.

The car was spotted in Claxton Bay and, after a high-speed chase, was intercepted in Freeport.

The men were arrested and taken to the Gasparillo Police Station where they were charged by PC Castillo. The stolen items were also recovered. Police also found a Glock pistol and six rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
