Argument over peas trees lands woman in court

FOR cutting down her neighbour's pigeon peas trees, a woman was arrested by police and taken to the San Fernando magistrates' court this morning on three charges.

"She cut down mines and I cut down she one," Linda Lall, 43, told magistrate Alicia Chankar.

But the lands on which both Lall and Zorina Nanan are planting belong to the State and Chankar ordered the former to sign a bond and be of good behaviour for a year.

Lall pleaded guilty to three charges – destroying ten pea trees belonging to Nanan; resisting arrest;obscene language; and disorderly behaviour.

Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan told Chankar as Lalll sat in the dock, that at about 11 am yesterday, Nanan saw Lall cutting down the trees, as well as a young coconut tree. The total value is $500. WPC Marsha Roger-Flemming and other officers went to Lall's home to investigate.

The court heard that when confronted, Lall shouted, "I chop up she peas because she chop up mines...allyuh St Margarets police cyah do me anything." Questioned about the ownership of the lands, she admitted that it belonged to the State though both she and Nanan had been planting peas on it.

On each charge, Chankar ordered Lall to sign a bond of $3,000 to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for a year.
