Machel and Ashanti ready for The Road

MACHEL MONTANO has teamed up with R&B singer Ashanti to sing The Road. The song was written by Jovon James and produced by Travis “Travis World” Hosein. It was released yesterday on Montano’s Instagram page.

Ashanti is an award-winning singer winning eight Billboard music awards, two American music awards and a Grammy in 2003.

She has collaborated with musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule and Fat Joe.

Speaking with Newsday about the venture, Hosein said: “This is a power soca for the road. This is a unique collaboration. Epically for an R&B artist, this is a song for the road.”

Hosein said he was connected to Ashanti through a disc jockey friend who works on Ashanti’s tours.

“It was an easy introduction. We had the song since last year, so making this video was a breeze.”

He said Ashanti was excited to do the song. She even wrote the bridge for the song.

She received the song in November 2018, and by the second week in December, she and Montano were in a recording studio in Brooklyn. Hosein said it took about a day to produce.

“Ashanti could sing very well. She was one of the best singers I’ve worked with.”

Hosein could not confirm if Ashanti would be coming to Trinidad to perform with Montano.
