Judge Lucky new Judicial Education Institute chair

JUSTICE Gillian Lucky is the new chairman of the Judicial Education Institute. She succeeds Appeal Court Judge Justice Peter Jamadar.

Chief Justice Ivor Archie, in an internal Judiciary memo on Friday last week, said Lucky brings a multifaceted and varied experience to the institute. Today at the Hall of Justice’s convocation hall starting at 2 pm, Lucky will launch an open lecture/panel discussion on “Judge Alone Trials” Retired United Kingdom judge Sir Anthony Hart will be the presenter.

Archie said Lucky contributed significantly to key initiatives in the Judiciary, such as criminal justice reform. She played a key role, he added, in pioneering the bail-boys project and fast-track court.

“She has been an advocate of professional development through training, having partnered with the US embassy to administer, from intelligent investigations to successful prosecution training for police officers; a seminar on evidence in criminal cases with the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago; the National Centre for State Courts for programmes that have been beneficial to the effective management of the court.” Lucky was a former senior state attorney, government senator, minister in the ministry of the attorney general, chairman Omnibus Legislation Committee; committee member for regularisation of the home video industry; member of the crime and justice commission; principal of the Academy of Tertiary Studies and course director in the law of evidence; lecturer at Hugh Wooding Law School and business law (UWI); former director of the Police Complaints Authority; former parliamentary representative.

Archie thanked Jamadar for his service and dedication in the management of the institute.
