Bishop’s Centenary hold off newcomers San Juan

THE 2019 Secondary Schools Girls Rugby League kicked off its 7th edition last Wednesday at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain, with three exciting matches on opening day.

The feature match saw defending champions Bishop’s Centenary College 1 narrowly beat debutants San Juan North Secondary 7-5. It was a creditable showing by San Juan North, who showed little nerves against their more experienced counterparts.

The Centenary girls picked up the victory, thanks to one try from Gabrielle Francis and a conversion from Angel Cooper. San Juan had one try from Deniqua Gordon.

In the first match-up, Bishop Anstey High School got its season off to a winning start with an excellent attacking and defensive display that saw the team annihilate Bishop’s Centenary College 2 38-0.

Keryce Baptiste led the scoring with four tries. Arissa Romany scored one try and kicked four successful conversions. Immanuel Francis also got on the scoresheet with a try.

In another fixture, Providence Girls defeated Tranquillity Government Secondary comfortably 21-5 victory with Moesha Smith, Amartis Jawahir and Kyiala Simon all scoring one try and two conversions each.
