Teens detained for robbery escape police custody

TWO Beetham Gardens boys, ages 15 and 16, who were held on Saturday for a series of gun-related robberies, escaped while being taken to the Besson St Police Station after an identification parade.

The 15-year-old was found, shortly after, hiding under a car close to the station. Police are still searching for the 16-year-old.

Police said the boys were arrested at Beetham Gardens and taken to the station where they were questioned. They were then taken to the Independence Square, Port of Spain branch of KFC where investigators held an identification parade.

While on their way back to the station at around 7pm, the boys, who were not handcuffed, opened the back doors of the police car and ran in different directions.

Senior officers have requested statements from the constables in whose care the boys were when they escaped.
