Bereaved wife and mom ‘holding the fort for now’

SINCE the deaths of Prem “Bulldog” Singh, 60, and his 24-year-old son Ryan, scores of people have visited the family’s home at Penal offering tributes and condolences to relatives. Up to yesterday, relatives were arranging for the accident victims to be cremated tomorrow after a funeral at the family’s home at Suchit Trace.

Singh was the father of two and lived with his wife Rena and their only son Ryan, the father of a six-year-old girl. Singh and Rena had an adult daughter, Ria, who lives elsewhere in Penal.

Singh’s brother Harry said: “There is no man in the house now. It was three of them and two are gone. Rena is holding the fort for now.

“Plenty people are visiting so it is busy here. The wake was big last night. I don’t know what would happen after all the people gone. My brother was well-known, plenty people knew Bulldog. He was quiet and good to everybody.” The father and son died in a car accident on Wednesday at about 9.30 pm on the southbound lane of the extension of the Solomon Hochoy Highway near UWI campus in Debe. Debe resident and pineapple farmer, Navindra Kelvin Latchan, 24, who was also in the car, survived, though he remains in critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. The three were returning to their homes from Palmyra, where the father and son had gone to pick up Latchan from his garden. Police believe Ryan lost control of the car, which crashed into the concrete base of an electricity pole. The father and son died on impact.

Cpl Ramnarine of the Southern Division is investigating.
