A WOMAN who is a psychiatric out-patient of the San Fernando General Hospital, admitted to a magistrate today that she was holding a cutlass on High Street, San Fernando.

Chrystal Henry, 31, of Ste Madeleine, was arrested by police on Wednesday afternoon and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon with intention to commit a crime.

She told magistrate Alicia Chankar in the San Fernando court: "Ma’am, I saw a woman trying to beat her daughter and I had to intervene."

PC Garvin Siewdass saw her with the cutlass in front of KFC's lower High Street outlet at about 3.30 pm. Prosecutor PC Cleyon Seedan said Henry did not offer an explanation when asked what she was doing with the weapon. Standing in the dock, Henry said she is a gardener and was on her way to her garden when the police stopped her.

"You were going to your garden on High Street?" Chankar asked.

Henry went on to tell the magistrate that she had the cutlass in a bag and in it, she also had her medication.

"I had to go to the hospital the day after, but I see the mother trying to take advantage of she daughter. I cannot see advantage taken."

Chankar ordered Henry to sign a $1,000 bond to keep the peace for a year.
