Building back to CCGA

SM Jaleel and Company Ltd does not own the Co-operative Citrus Growers Association (CCGA) building in Laventille. A senior company official on Wednesday said SM Jaleel had a lease on the property. That lease ended in the middle of last year. Sm Jaleel acquired the Trinidad Fruit Juice range of brands from CCGA in 2008.

The official said the property had been returned to the CCGA. He said all further questions regarding the use of the property should be referred to the association. Efforts to contact the CCGA for comment were unsuccessful. CCGA is defined as a company working in food manufacturing business activities. San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation chairman Anthony Roberts said the CCCGA building fell within the corporation’s boundaries but the corporation did not own the property.

The CCGA’s existence pre-dates 1937. The association was one of five agricultural groups responsible for the selection of members of the Board of Agriculture of TT. This information is contained in the Department of Agriculture Ordinance 1937.
