Sandals right to leave

THE EDITOR: The Sandals people are quite right in walking away from unnecessary pussyfooting and bad mouthing of their franchise. To prove what? That you are smarter than Butch Stewart? The Sandals reputation as a first class entity could not be allowed to be besmirched because of a few intellectuals in TT and anti government mud slinging.

Why lose millions of dollars from negative publicity? Which one of the winners, which one of the naysayers can personally afford to bring out the champagne and drink to victory? Who will foolishly celebrate a hollow victory? There will be no extra airliners landing in Tobago. Which few visitors will be clamouring to look at goat racing, crab racing and a few jazz concerts?

Why bother to extend the air port? What is there for the small BB hotels in Tobago to gloat over? There is always a price to pay for sanctimonious advice. It was never about a lack of transparency in the Sandals proposals. It was and is still some vain politicking going on behind the scenes. The tin pot Napoleons know themselves.

I hate to say what must be said. Stupid people are never aware of their stupidity because they are far too foolish to understand that you do not walk away from gift horses. Perhaps the thought of being a sophisticated tourism destination was too frightening for some few sanctimonious pseudo intellectuals?

If part of the rejection of Sandals is to do with the struggle for Tobago style self governance, let us all weep. How much money can be budgeted for Tobago to keep it viable? Read my political lips: Vacations to Tobago from locals will have to dwindle when we feel the economic squeeze in Trinidad because of the lack of spin off from Sandals.

Tobago, clean, green, serene and a backwater island with the odd cruise liner passing fleetingly. There may allegedly not even be any pipes for any smart thinking crapaud to stop over and smoke in Tobago.

Is it possible that in the race to self rule, in the race to spit in the face of the present government, that Tobago can allegedly long term end up like a mini sized Haiti? Think about it. What do you see as our worst case scenario?
