THREE men who allegedly robbed Island Beers Chill and Grill at the South Park mall in San Fernando appeared on Monday before a San Fernando magistrate charged with robbing three saleswomen and two salesmen of over $8,455 and their cell phones.

Jerell Alexis, 20, of Pleasantville, Atiba Sealy, 29, of Princes Town and Kirsten Charles, 20, of Pleasantville were taken before magistrate Alicia Chankar.

Charles was granted $300,000 bail. Alexis and Sealy were denied bail.

The charges read to the trio alleged, last week Tuesday they and others armed with a gun robbed the salesmen and women and a patron at Island Beers Chill and Grill. A customer was robbed of her cell phone.

A separate charge read to Sealy alleged that he had a gun and two rounds of ammunition.

The charges were laid indictably by PC Ramdass PC Subero of the San Fernando CID and Alexis, Sealy and Charles were not called upon to plead. Attorney Cedric Neptune, who represented Charles in his bail application, said his client had a clean record and no previous convictions or pending matters before any court.

The magistrate, in granting bail, ordered Charles to report to the police station on Tuesday and Saturday by 8am.

Sealy and Alexis were unrepresented by attorneys.

Prosecutor PC Cleyon Seedan, objecting to bail, said Sealy had a pending matter before the court for a similar offence. The court also heard Sealy had two pending matters before the court for which he did not appear resulting in two warrants being issued for him.

The prosecutor also objected to bail for Alexis owing to the seriousness of the offences. The magistrate reviewed his criminal record and learnt he had recently served time in prison for a similar offence. He was denied bail.

Alexis and Sealy were remanded into custody and advised to apply to a High Court judge for bail. The case was adjourned to February 11.
