ON the heels of Minister of Communications Stuart Young blaming Sandals pull-out from Tobago on a handful of individuals, some with personal agendas, activist Devant Maharaj

said he welcomed being counted among that number.

“Having lodged complaints with the Integrity Commission as well as other agencies locally and internationally on the total lack of any procurement process to select Sandals Resort Hotel Group I gladly acknowledge being counted among the handful of people that caused the withdrawal of Sandals.”

Maharaj attributed the withdrawal to the abandonment of the procurement process.

“This process, if employed, would have required a market feasibility study and public consultation as well as a competitive bidding process.

“If only now the Australian Government will also react to adverse publicity regarding the INCAT/AUSTAL purchases which also had no procurement process involved.”
