A 45-year-old Cunupia businessman who jumped into the tray of his van after he was robbed by two gunmen on Saturday night suffered severe injuries when he fell off the tray of the speeding van.

Nigel Ramnarine was treated and warded at hospital.

Around 9.45 pm Ramnarine, the owner of J and J Barbeque, was at the Old Longdenville Road, Longdenville, closing his business place. His wife Ingrain Kissoon and his daughter Radica were sitting in Ramnarine’s Mazda pickup.

Two gunmen robbed Ramnarine of $400, then ordered Ingrain and Radica out of the van and were driving away in it when Ramnarine jumped into the tray.

The driver van began driving recklessly at speed and Ramnarine fell to the road.

Ramnarine’s wife alerted Longdenville residents, who found the bleeding Ramnarine in the road and took him to the Chaguanas Health Centre.

Central Division police later found Ramnarine’s van abandoned in a bushy area at David Toby Road, Cunupia a short while later.

The van was dusted for prints and police believe arrests are imminent.
