Elderly woman escapes fiery death

AN 81-YEAR-OLD St James woman escaped a fiery death on Saturday night after she fled her home on seeing fire in the corridor.

Police reported that at about 9.15 pm, Yvonne Roberts was at her home when she saw fire and smoke emanating from the corridor. The elderly woman ran outside and alerted neighbours who contacted the Four Roads Fire Station.

Officers were able to save the four bedroom house. The cause of the blaze is not yet known and investigations are continuing.
