Suspected murderer shot during botched robbery

One of the bandits shot during an attempted robbery this afternoon is wanted in connection with the murder of a Maloney man last year.

Police said the two men attempted to rob businessman Leon Wong at his George Street, business place at about 1 pm, but ran away when Wong pulled out his own licensed gun and shot at them.

The two men checked themselves into the St James Infirmary for treatment, telling staff they were the victims of a robbery.

Staff called the police, who went to the hospital and placed them under guard, pending further inquiries.
