Maxi taxi robbery

Five commuters travelling in a maxi taxi were robbed at gun point of their money, jewellery and their cell phones. The incident has left the five people traumatised. According to a police report, on Wednesday at about 1 pm, maxi taxi driver Cleavon Matiste was plying his maxi taxi in the Port of Spain-San Fernando route when three young men pretending to be passengers boarded the maxi taxi in Port-of-Spain.

Reports said, upon reaching Gasparillo along the Solomon Hochoy Highway, the men told the driver they were getting out at the Gasparillo overpass. When the maxi stopped the men pulled out guns and announced a hold up. They put the valuables of the driver and passengers in a bag then ran into Gasparillo The driver and the passengers went to the police station and made a report. Police took statements from the driver and the passengers. A manhunt has since been launched but no arrests were made up to press time yesterday.
