Man drops $70,000 in ganja

AFTER leading police on a chase through a forest in Moruga, a man dropped his backpack containing $70,000 worth of marijuana and fled. When police searched the backpack they found seven grammes of marijuana in a plastic bag.

On Wednesday police from the Inter-Agency Task Force were on patrol during an anti-crime exercise in Moruga.

In Marac Village, they spotted a man sitting by the road. On seeing them, he stood up and began to run into the forest. Police chased him but could not find him. The backpack of drugs was taken to the police station. Up to today investigators were still searching for the man who they believed lives in Moruga.

In another anti-crime exercise, on Tuesday police destroyed $150,000 worth of marijuana trees and seedlings at a forest in Chatham, Point Fortin. Reports said the exercise started at 11 am and ended at 2 pm.

A total of 150 marijuana trees and 350 seedlings were destroyed.
