UWI breeze past Las Lomas in Alternative Division netball

UWI X, led by their 2018 MVP Shuntelle Morris, eased past Las Lomas 24-10 in the opening round of Alternative Division league matches in the Courts All Sectors Netball League, at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua, Tuesday.

The goal-attack scored 14 of her 26 tries on target, while her team-mates Tineca John scored 6 out of 16 attempts and Mariah Smith, four from six for the UWI team.

The university’s second team in the competition, UWI Y, also opened their account with a win. Goal-attack Mariah Rodriguez was their best player on the day, scoring nine goals from 13 attempts. Aisha Stevenson had a good outing for Jabloteh with nine goal from 15.

Bermudez, however, started and ended the day on top of the standings after a 23-7 victory against Defence Force.

Bermudez controlled the contest from start to finish and prevented Defence Force from getting on the scoresheet until the second quarter. Goal-attack Jillisa Briggs was sharp for the winning team, scoring nine from 12 attempts, while goal-shoot Shanequa Griffith led all scorers with 14 goals from 21 attempts.

The Courts All Sectors Netball League got off to a start last Saturday with the opening-day knockout tournament, before the first round of Retro Division matches got the four-division league competition started on Monday.

Les Enfants were impressive 31-29 first round winners over Jabloteh, while Police also recorded a win, 21-16, over TSTT.

The Alternative Division will continue today with three more matches. Last year’s league runners-up MIC will meet USC from 5.30 pm at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, before PYC and TT Post clash at 6.20 pm.

The day will end with Bermudez and Jeabloteh meeting in both teams’ second match at 7.10 pm.
