Classes as usual at Belmont Gov’t Primary

While work is being done on a leak in a water tank and the clearing up pigeon droppings at the Belmont Government Primary School, the school is running as usual, said Education Minister Anthony Garcia.

In a brief interview yesterday, Garcia said a team from the ministry comprising the manager of the Education Facilities Procurement Division, a health and safety officer, the school supervisor and a representative from the TT Unified Teachers Association visited the school yesterday morning.

He said they examined the building and submitted a report to the ministry.

“What they found was that there are some ceiling tiles that have become dislodged and at the back of the school there are some pigeon droppings. There is also a leak in one of the water tanks. The report I have indicates the school is generally clean except for those minor issues.

“MTS has been asked to visit the school to start work with a matter of urgency to firstly replace the ceiling tiles.”

Garcia said stopping the leak in the water tank will not take long and the pigeon droppings will be cleaned and sanitised.

On Monday, some teachers left school early because of the pigeon infestation and lack of water.
