A police sergeant assigned to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU) warded off two gunmen who shot at him at his Charlieville home on Sunday night.

Central Division police launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

Around 10.40 pm on Sunday, Sgt Riad Hosein was in the lower floor of his two-storey house when he heard screams from the top floor. His brother Rishard was screaming because he saw two men pointing guns at where Sgt Hosein was standing.

Hosein told investigators as he looked out of the window he saw the two men pointing guns at him. He drew his official gun and fired six shots at the suspects, who climbed a wall and escaped.

Hosein called Chaguanas police and ASP Pierre and others came to the house and found a quantity of spent shells.

Hosein and his brother were taken to an undisclosed location pending further enquiries.

Investigators believe Hosein was a target of the gunmen because of sensitive investigations which are being vigorously pursued.
