Warwick scoffs at UNC election memo

OWTU chief education and research officer Ozzi Warwick has scoffed at a memo circulating on social media which purportedly lists the union’s president general Ancel Roget as part of a UNC “dream team” of candidates for a possible snap general election.

The memo, which was purportedly sent to all constituency chairmen by the UNC political leader, lists several prominent people as candidates, and tipped Roget for the Pointe-a-Pierre constituency. Roget’s first name Ancel is spelled incorrectly in the memo,, and his candidacy is said to be “awaiting confirmation.” Newsday was unable to contact Roget for comment on the memo, but Warwick, in a phone interview” described it as “fake news.” “I can’t tell you how far from the truth this is. This is such a stretch from the truth that it isn’t funny,” he said.

“I think this is someone being mischievous and this shows where our politics have reached.”

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar also told Newsday on Friday the list was bogus as she had previously announced screenings for candidates for local government and general elections would be done this year.
